Bobbie Battista, born Barbara Ann Battista, was an American news anchor and journalist. When the network debuted in 1981 she was one of the original CNN Headline News anchors. She anchored numerous CNN news programs including TalkBack Live.
Battista had been anchor and producer of Action News 5 for WRAL-TV, Raleigh, North Carolina before joining CNN Headline News. In 1976 she launched her television career on WRAL-TV. She produced and anchored the morning news segment for the station and produced a number of special programming in sports, public affairs and children’s television before becoming an anchor for the evening news in 1977.
Battista was the writer and assistant producer for Fed up with Fear in 1981, a documentary on five stations which won a George Foster Peabody Award. She was nominated as Best News Personality of 1984 for an On Cable magazine award, which was voted on by cable viewers. Battista was voted Best Newscaster in the 1986 Annual Reader’s poll by Cable Guide magazine, and in 1995 she was nominated for Best Newscaster’s CableACE award.
Battista was also featured on HGTV’s one-hour prime-time special highlighting the design styles of some of America’s most respected and widely recognized broadcast journalists. Battista is member of Sigma Delta Chi and Women in Communications. She was a guest lecturer at universities, associations and congresses around the world.
