Ayo Edebiri Biography

Ayo Edebiri is an American actor and TV writer. She was born on October 3, 1995, in the United States. Since 2022, she acts as chef Sydney Adamu in the comedy-drama series The Bear. She won a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe for her work in this role.

Edebiri has also written and voiced the animated series Big Mouth since 2020. He has also helped write the comedy series What We Do in the Shadows, which will air in 2022.

She originally became interested in humor while taking an acting class in eighth school. She later joined the improv club at Boston Latin School, where she got her start.

Edebiri canvassed for the Democratic Socialists of America. She feels herself to be both gay and Irish.

Ayo Edebiri Career

Edebiri appears in an episode of the TV series Defectives in 2014. Edebiri began her career as a stand-up comedian, appearing on Comedy Central’s Up Next to showcase her abilities.
Ayo and Rachel Are Single, a scripted digital comedy she co-wrote and performed in with her friend and fellow comedian Rachel Sennott, premiered on the network in May 2020. The series was a cooperation between the two.

She made her debut in the comedy-drama Shithouse, which was released in 2020, playing an uncredited role.

Edebiri gained prominence in 2022 after joining the main cast of the comedic series The Bear, which aired on FX and Hulu.
Sydney Adamu, an ambitious young sous chef, received nominations for the Gotham Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Independent Spirit Award. She has also been nominated for the Gotham Awards.

Her work on the episode “Private School” for the Hulu series What We Do in the Shadows got her a Writers Guild of America Award nomination for Best Episodic Comedy. During this period, she also started working as a writer and consultant producer for the program.

Edebiri, who previously appeared in the Netflix-created cartoon series Mulligan (2023), served as co-producer. In addition, she gave her voice for Netflix’s interactive program “We Lost Our Human.”
In 2023, she also appeared in the Black Mirror episode “Joan Is Awful” and an episode of Mel Brooks’ Hulu series History of the World, Part II.

She starred alongside Molly Gordon and Ben Platt in the live mockumentary comedy film Theater Camp, which was released in 2023.

When the film initially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, it received rave reviews, with many comparing it to Christopher Guest’s works.

She co-starred with Rachel Sennott in the teen sex comedy Bottoms, which came out later that year. The film premiered during South by Southwest.

According to Katie Walsh’s piece in The Los Angeles Times, “Sennott and Edebiri deliver two of the funniest performances of the year together.”

On January 26, 2023, she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with the film Thunderbolts, which was released in 2025.
